I think Goddess Durga is trying to tell me something… 37

Yesterday, my husband and I went to pray at our favourite Goddess Durga mandir (temple). This temple is one of the most beautiful temples in Nagpur, we both love it there. After we have prayed, we usually receive a small hand full of a sweet which has been blessed by the Goddess as we leave, this is called prasad. Prasad is something, usually food, which has been offered to the God or Goddess of the temple and then given to the worshippers as a gift.

A photograph I took during the festival of Navratri, you can see the prasad at Goddess Durga’s feet.

I’ve been to this temple hundreds of times, and last night something new happened. I was given some extra prasad in the form of four green glass bangles and a small garland of flowers to tie in my hair. A sweet woman gave them to me with a smile and said, “prasad“. This made me smile so much and really surprised me because only twenty-four hours earlier, I had been writing a post on this blog about how I sometimes forget to wear important Hindu marital symbols such as bangles and now Goddess Durga had given me some. I think Goddess Durga was trying to tell me something…

My grandmother-in-law will be very pleased to know that from now on I will make an extra effort to wear bangles, that little gesture was really special. I feel extremely honoured to have received bangles which been blessed by Goddess Durga, little ‘coincidences’ like these add some extra sweetness to life.

Amazing prasad from Sri Durga Mata’s temple, perhaps a sign of the feminine energy in your life.
Green bangles signify a happy married life, so all your relatives want to be assured that when you wear them it indicates good health for your husband.
Most Indians do put a lot of faith in signs and symbols, everything to them is a talisman or harbinger of good luck. Well, it may lead to positive thinking, who knows?
But I think glass bangles are a bit dangerous, and when they break…well, then it becomes a negative sign!
Maybe you can get gold bangles with emeralds.

      Hey Shobha,
      Thanks for your comment!

You’re right, they can be dangerous, several months ago I cut myself on a broken one which, for some reason, was in a drawer. Have to be careful with them and dispose of the broken ones well xx

That’s great Lauren! But I can’t think of this as a little coincidence, Durga Maa is definitely telling you something! 😉

PS- Congratulations on your new apartment! Wishing you all the best! 🙂

I get an impression that you are attaching too much importance to these things. I understand that you love Indian traditions but don’t get too much worked up with these things. Faith can very quickly turn into superstition in India and may be exploited, if you get my drift. I hope I have not offended you.

As far as the the what goddess durga is trying to tell you, perhaps she wants to come to your home or may be Lord Ganesha wants to come to your home too in their little forms. So, take the hint. Our gods like us are very good at giving hints which usually go in a particular direction.

      Hey Friend,

Definitely not offended. I’ve never been superstitious, but I do like to observe signs and coincidences. I have my whole life. I understand how people make a living from exploiting superstition, I see these signs as personal so I don’t think that anyone could convince me that or exploit me. If God wants to tell me something, God will tell me. I don’t know if I have expressed what I mean well, hopefully I have.

We will be having a Durga pooja as soon as we have completely shifted! Goddess Durga and Lord Ganesh are always welcome in our home!

      I hope you are well!

      Take care

Come on ! Don’t entangle in any rituals intensely. Being educated person, contribute for betterment of yourself and our country India.

You can be educated and spiritual at the same time. You can have a degree and appreciate delightful coincidences.

I don’t understand how praying and observing coincidences has a negative effect anyone or any country. I am not preaching to anyone, I’m simply making an observation and sharing it.

That’s a really nice synchronicity. And it was so sweet of the lady to give you this, I think she blessed you.

That’s a wonderful surprise! 🙂 And, even though I would personally not consider it a sign to wear bangles etc all the time, I understand your sentiment! 🙂

I’m very sorry to burst the bubble you’re living in, but you are on the wrong path.
PRAY ONLY TO THE CREATOR NOT TO THE CREATIONS.
    1. One who has birth and death cannot be a creator.
    2. One who eats. Sleeps and gets tired cannot be a creator.
3.One who has body parts like living beings cannot be a creator.
    4. One who has wife, son and is dependent on needs and help cannot be creator.

Majority of people, in blind following of their forefathers accept the existence of God by some name or other but do not have the true recognition of the one to be worshipped. Please ponder regarding the purpose of life.
The question arises that if man is busy only with worship, how will the other activities of life be taken care of? So how does man achieve the purpose of life.?
This life is a temporary abode and a centre of examination and test. When the duration of exam ends man is removed from this station. Ifan dies not realize the reality of this world he will waste the duration of exam and will eventually fail.

The wrong path for you but the right path for me. Take care, God bless.

The purpose and utility of the various things that humans use and benefit from like cars planes machines stores houses phones are well known to man. Similarly the purpose of bigger things in the universe like the sky sun air water fire animals metals minerals are also well known. If the purpose of any entity is unknown scientists and researchers are busy day and night to decipher its reality.
Think! If man is well versed with the purpose and utility of things should he not strive to know the very purpose of his own creation!?
Will he just pass this life without a purpose?
It is a matter if grave pity that the most educated, intellectual to the illiterate amongst us are even aware of purpose of waste products used as fertiliser so should not man realize the purpose of his own creation and life?
